I was your typical person who was just shoving anything into my mouth to eat because I was so busy running my business. The only decent meals I ate were cooked by my wife but during the weekday, when she had to work too, I just did the expedient thing — hit McDonald’s.
Things changed, although not immediately when a new client came to the company to get a celebrity endorsement for their grill. Oh, by the way, my wife and I run a celebrity endorsement company. So here was this grill, the Nutrigrill, that looked pretty cool but I didn’t know how to sell it or what kind of celebrity we would use. So my initial mission was this — how do I sell this thing and serve my client?
To be honest with you, at that time I was not a prospect for the grill. Since I was a young kid, I never had issues with weight loss. So my challenge was really to put myself in the shoes of the type of people who would buy the grill. The owner of Nutrigrill kept on talking to me about all the great things the grill could do. He was talking about metabolism, fat burning, the right veggies to use with the grill. To me, it was a foreign language. Man, what is the big deal with the grill? It’s a grill for gosh sakes!
So here I was, a total low IQ health person, trying to figure out how to sell a grill designed for people who cared about health. Then, my wife had a great idea. Why don’t we use the grill and get the family together? I was pretty much like, “okay, worst case I eat some good food and my kids do too”. I had zero idea what was going to happen.
That weekend I grabbed a grill that we brought home and my wife brought over some sliced meat and vegetables AND some beef broth. What the hell is that? I plugged the grill and yelled out to the kids to come to the dining room table. Thirty seconds of yelling later and, holy crap, the grill was already hot and ready to go. My wife poured in the broth and it was bubbling away in no time and smelled great. I was chucking in the veggies and walla!, I was a chef. If I had this grill and some prepared food I could make meals as good as or better than when I ate at a restaurant — for real
We were three minutes in when we started putting beef strips on the grill. Two meat flips later and I was eating steak and veggies that actually tasted fantastic! Then it hit me. This took like 5 to 6 minutes to prepare, cook, and start eating great food. What hit me? I liked eating really good food and my time problem was solved. If I had this grill and some prepared food I could make meals as good as or better than when I ate at a restaurant — for real! This “grill” was the solution to finally eating right and enjoying it.
So, after decades of not really caring about food despite the good advice of others, including my wife, the light bulb hit. Also, now I knew how to sell this grill, and most importantly I know it could help a huge number of people achieve their goals regarding food whatever they are
I went from a healthy eating novice to someone who could eat right and really love the food. I felt like a gourmet chef. Now that is a switch.
